Hello [[contact.first_name|default: "there"]],
Last week, you began noticing where you tend to grip tightly to outcomes, expectations, control, or certainty.
As that awareness builds, something important often shows up: you begin to realize how quickly that “grip” forms when things feel uncertain, high-stakes, or important to you.
This week, we take the next step.
We begin experimenting with what it actually feels like to loosen that grip — not by disengaging or caring less, but by shifting how tightly we hold the outcome.
Non-attachment doesn’t mean letting go of intention. It means releasing the need for a specific result in order to feel steady, successful, or okay.
Or, as Tom Petty sang: “Hold on loosely… but don’t let go.”
I’ve come back to that idea often in moments where I notice myself trying to control an outcome or be “right.”
There’s a real insight in it, too much gripping narrows possibility. Too much loosening without grounding can also feel unsteady.
The space in between, that’s where flow begins to return.
This is the quiet work of this week, learning how to stay engaged, intentional, and present… without over-controlling the outcome.
These moments don't need pressure. They need space, and trust to breathe.
And this is where self-compassion continues to matter: we cannot loosen our grip on outcomes if we are tightening inwardly with self-judgment.
So keep that work close this week.
Do small things with great love, Eileen Murphy
