The Career Flow Collective

Hello [[contact.first_name|default: "there"]],

We are moving towards this program’s half-way point.

And if this were in a match or  a long race, this is often when people start to feel it - energy dips, stamina is tested, and the question creeps in – can I really keep going?!

So it’s only fitting - or maybe even a little serendipitous - that this month we’re focusing on Self-Compassion.

This body of work has been widely developed by Dr Kristin Neff and Dr Christopher Germer. You may hear it described as “inner resilience” - the ability to meet yourself with awareness and kindness, especially in difficult moments.

Because when we feel like we can’t go on, it’s not pressure that restores us - it’s how we respond to ourselves in that moment that re-charges our spirits.

Many of us have internal patterns of self-talk that once helped us perform or push through. But over time, those same patterns can become heavy, critical, and draining.

Self-compassion offers another way.

It’s the practice of noticing what’s happening… and responding to yourself with the same understanding and care you would offer someone else - like a child or a friend.

As Dr. Neff describes it, self-compassion asks: How are you relating to yourself in moments of difficulty?

Because when you’re already feeling stretched or discouraged, being hard on yourself doesn’t help you move forward.

And as you think about your career, your growth, and the presence you want to embody:

Will you get there by pushing yourself down…or by having your own back?

Let’s find out together!

Do small things with great love.
Eileen

P.S. Don’t forget to reserve your 1:1 session for this month.

Reflection

Take a few moments to reflect:

  • When something doesn’t go as planned, what tone does your inner voice take?

  • How does that inner dialogue show up in your body (e.g., tension, fatigue, shallow breath)?

  • If someone else overheard that voice, what would they assume about you?

Practice

Each day, notice one moment when you become aware of your inner voice.

Gently label it as:

  • Constructive: rooted in growth and learning, or

  • Destructive: rooted in shame or self-doubt.

At week’s end, review what you noticed.

  • What themes or patterns repeat?

  • When does your inner voice become more critical?

  • How might these patterns reflect old beliefs about performance or worth that no longer serve you?

Optional Reset Practice

Small resets throughout the day can gently restore energy. Here are three you can try throughout the month:

Breathwork
For a few moments, place a hand on your heart and breathe naturally. Feeling the gentle rise and fall of your breath.

As you breathe, silently repeat the phrase, “I am kind and gentle with myself.”

Movement
Have a mini dance party. Put on a favorite song and let your body move freely — no structure, no performance, just release.

Grounding
After completing a challenging task, gently say to yourself:

“I’ve done what I could here. Now I give myself a moment to rest.”

Lingering Thought

A moment of self-compassion can change your entire day. A string of such moments can change the course of your life. - Chris Germer

For many of us, this work can feel unfamiliar.

We’ve spent years - even decades, believing that being hard on ourselves is what keeps us motivated.

So learning to meet ourselves with kindness can feel… different.

But within that shift is something powerful: A more sustainable, grounded way to move forward.
